Next to a covered well, right by the side of the main road, and
opposite the "Iron Room", there's this damaged pump with its top caved in and
minus its handle. It looks very much like a model produced by Joseph Evans
& Sons, of Wolverhampton, but their products carried a lion trademark.
Instead of the lion, there's a very clear flag trademark on one side of this
pump. This establishes beyond any doubt that the pump was manufactured by Lee,
Howl & Co, of Tipton, Staffs. There's evidence to suggest that the chief
designer from Joseph Evans absconded to join Lee, Howl & Co., which might
explain why their pumps were remarkably similar. Grid Ref: SN 686955. |
