General Information, Tourism, etc.
I've hunted out the following URLs for Web Sites specifically relating to Mach, but there are many more for the general area listed under the Dyfi Valley Pages:
http://www.dyfiactive.org.uk/ gives visitors all the information they need on self-package activity holidays - how to get there, where to stay and what to do.
http://www.walesdirectory.co.uk/Towns_in_Wales/Machynlleth_Town.htm A nicely-written appraisal of the town.
http://www.cat.org.uk/ Major Web Site. The Centre for Alternative Technology is situated on the site of an old slate quarry about 4 miles from Mach and has working examples of wind, water and solar power, energy conservation, environmentally sound buildings, an organic garden, and alternative sewage systems. Fascinating, a great day out, and a good simple restaurant. Much more detail included in the Web Site, including an online shopping page.
http://www.momawales.org.uk/english/intro.htm Surprising to find a Museum of Modern Art in "traditional old Machynlleth", but very welcome. Housed next door to the old Tabernacl chapel, and the chapel itself has been transformed into a small performance area.
http://www.broddyfileisure.powys.gov.uk See what's going on at the Leisure Centre in Mach.
http://www.corris-w.dircon.co.uk Information on King Arthur's Labyrinth, tourist attraction at Corris, about 6 miles away from Mach.
http://www.westwales.co.uk/rspb.htm Info relating to Ynyshir Nature Reserve (RSPB), about 6 miles from Mach, on the Aberystwyth road at Eglwysfach.
http://www.corris.co.uk/ Home Page of the ambitious Corris Railway Preservation Society, which has its headquarters about 6 miles from Mach, on the Dolgellau road. There's a useful potted history of the line at: http://www.narrow-gauge-pleasure.co.uk/rlycorris.html
http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/llyncau/index.html This is the Web Site of the Machynlleth Civic Society - and very good it is too.
http://www.walesindex.co.uk/search/ The Information Resource for Powys - a useful and growing Website for the entire county. Type "Machynlleth" in the search box and back comes useful addresses, telephone numbers, etc., for an enormous number of businesses in the town.
http://www.artfuldobson.com Web site of artist and photographer Peter Dobson, now in the USA, but who lived in Mach for a long time and is currently uploading photos he took of the town over a period of years. Look under "Other Galleries".
http://www.s-h-systems.co.uk/machynll.html#Machynlleth Hotels and Guest Houses Commercial site for the area, but including a great deal of local tourist info, esp under the entry for the Wynnstay Arms Hotel.
http://community-councils.powys.org.uk/machynlleth/default.htm Machynlleth Town Council Home Page. Some good pics, and further info about local attractions, investment opportunities, etc.
http://www.powys.gov.uk/ Powys County Council Search Site. Enter via "Community and Living", then "Towns & Villages", then choose "Machynlleth" to view a useful set of links.
http://www.glswscouts.org.uk/campsites/search?q=Gwersyll Details on the local Scout camp, very close to the Centre for Alternative Technology. It's a marvellous campsite, built through the superhuman efforts of long-time Scout Leader Gordon Mill.
