This really is the strangest of memorials. Whoever saw one that
omitted the name of the deceased, any key dates, or indeed any other
information pertinent to the life of the deceased? It's been suggested to me
that perhaps Pryse Pryse simply wrote a note to the local monumental mason
along the lines:
Dear Sir,
Please
provide a suitable memorial stone for the church wall inscribed in memory of my
Mother,
Signed,
Pryse Pryse.
and the craftsman took him at his
word! On the other hand, could it just be that the person erecting the memorial
considered himself more memorable than the deceased? Maybe I'm being
unkind. |
