Wynford was a well-respected BBC broadcaster, who was awarded the Croix de Guerre for his reporting during WWII. Although not from this area, he always maintained that the view from the roadside near Aberhosan across the hills towards Yr Wyddfa and the Snowdonia National Park was one of the best in Wales and, after his death in 1987, there was erected on the spot a memorial to him, in the form of a Viewpoint. Despite efforts by oafs to desecrate this monument, it is a lasting tribute to a much-loved man.
